Calibration of electrical test equipment to an international or national standard is key to ensuring the safety and quality of a product, or the job for which it is to be used.
Assuring the quality, consistency and stability of a current, voltage, resistance etc. is crucial. Traceability for the measurement not only fulfils the requirements of ISO 9001 but also gives confidence that safety precautions are being met in compliance with the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989.
Electrical calibration is designed to ensure any electrical device is operating within pre-set limits. These limits are in place to guarantee that the safety standard or rating of the device meets HSE and British Standards legislation.
Without proper calibration, you do not have a recognised method of ensuring that the equipment used during these tests is accurate. Relying on inaccurate results could prove catastrophic to a system (or operator) that incorporates components operating outside tightly controlled parameters.
Reliability, operating life, functionality, safety and cost can all be impacted by a lack of calibration conducted by an approved laboratory.
